What are executive functions?

Executive functions are the cognitive brain skills that help us get things done. They develop over time from childhood through young adulthood and are most simply described as the ability to:

- manage time and attention

- set goals

- plan and organize

- switch focus

- adjust and refocus

- attend to details

- develop timelines

- complete tasks efficiently

- manage stress and anxiety

- collaborate effectively

- maintain clutter-free space

- control and regulate behavior

Strengthening executive functions will improve performance in school, at home and in the workplace. Executive functioning skills are essential for success.
